Geometry and tolerances

Curved steel leaves no room for approximation

Bent and twisting members require exact definition so the fabricated steel arrives with the geometry the erection sequence expects.

Anatomic Iron specializes in complex steel detailing for curved and twisting steel members. Bent elements have very small tolerances, so the quality of the detailing directly affects fabrication accuracy and successful field erection.

We have developed custom Tekla components and plugins to present curved steel structures clearly on two-dimensional shop drawings.

For members without a constant radius, our coordinate-table output defines the exact deflection along the length of the piece and gives the fabricator usable geometry at controlled reference points.

Complex structural geometry in the fabrication model

Fabrication-critical geometry

The curve must work beyond the model.

The model, shop drawing and fabricated member must describe the same curve before the steel reaches the field.

  1. Define the geometryControl the curve, twist and member orientation.
  2. Communicate the shapeCustom Tekla tools carry complex geometry into two-dimensional shop drawings.
  3. Coordinate the interfacesReview connections and adjacent framing against the fabrication model.

From model to fabrication

Control the geometry from model to field

Specialized tools and disciplined checking convert difficult three-dimensional forms into clear production information.

Tolerance control

Small-tolerance checking

Geometry, member orientation, splice conditions and reference points are treated as fabrication-critical information.

Model coordination

Tekla and SDS2 capability

Curved members remain coordinated with connections, adjacent framing, transport constraints and erection intent.

Drawing output

Custom components and plugins

Purpose-built tools communicate complex geometry clearly on two-dimensional fabrication drawings.
