From design assist to fabrication-ready drawings in three months.
Project overview
The Nucor Screening project was delivered through a design-assist workflow developed in close collaboration with Martin/Martin.
Our team prepared the structural design drawings under the engineer’s supervision and subsequently produced the complete fabrication and erection drawing packages. This continuous workflow created a direct connection between design development and steel detailing, helping the team respond to an exceptionally demanding project schedule.
Approximately 523 tons of structural steel progressed through design assist and detailing in around three months.
Detailing scope
Design-assist documentation was prepared under Martin/Martin’s engineering supervision before the steel progressed into fabrication detailing.
The detailed 3D model connected engineering direction with steel assemblies across the approximately 523-ton package.
Following design assist, the team produced the shop drawing package from the coordinated model.
The final scope also included erection documentation and a project animation communicating the structural steel.
Technical complexity
Approximately 523 tons had to progress through design assist and full detailing in around three months.
Close collaboration with the Engineer of Record allowed decisions to move directly into the developing model while design and detailing advanced together.
Structural design, steel assemblies, fabrication drawings and erection information needed consistent data without losing context between project phases.
Our approach
Rather than treating design assist, modeling and shop drawing production as separate assignments, our team managed them as connected stages of the same steel delivery process.
Close collaboration with the Engineer of Record allowed technical direction to be incorporated directly into the developing model. That model then supported the preparation of fabrication and erection drawings.
The approach helped the project team:
Our team collaborated closely with Martin/Martin throughout the design-assist phase. Under the engineer’s supervision, we prepared the structural design drawings required to advance the steel package into detailing and fabrication.
This approach enabled design development and detailing considerations to progress together rather than as isolated, sequential activities.
The design-assist scope included:
Project animation
Project result
The team completed both the design-assist phase and the full structural steel detailing scope within the project’s demanding three-month timeframe.
This achievement demonstrates our ability to support fast-moving industrial projects where engineering collaboration, technical accuracy and delivery speed are equally important.
